Freda Roberts

Today is a sad day for Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire as we learned of the passing of Former Aylesbury Mayor, Alderman of Buckinghamshire, and Aylesbury, Former Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council and Freeman of Aylesbury Town, Freda Roberts MBE.

Full of political oomph and verve Freda was a constant for 52 years in Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire's political and social life. A councillor for 52 years Freda was the Aylesbury Town Mayor three times and campaigned tirelessly and successfully for the re-establishment of Aylesbury Town Council and the Town Twinning Society.

Her involvement with Stoke Mandeville Radio, lunch clubs, the scouts, the Southcourt Walton Court Community Project and so many many organsiations was truly a masterpiece in civic duty.

Freda was also Bucks County Councillor until 2017 and was a Magistrate, been a school governor, Alderman, and Freeman of Aylesbury. Freda never sat on the sidelines, she got involved with various charities and organisations.

Freda a former nurse, was born in Yorkshire and moved to Aylesbury after she met her late husband Rupert while he was stationed in the county during the Second World War and visiting one of his comrades in hospital.Rupert and Freda married and settled first in Aylesbury High Street before moving later on to Southcourt, where they brought up their two children.

She finished her life in Wellington, Somerset wanting to move closer to her daughter.

She will be greatly missed by Tim and Sally and all the family and she was a much loved mum, mum-in-law, nan and great nanny.
